“No, I will not calm down!”
I heard someone shouting in the hallway. It sounded like Gustav, but what could he be so upset about? I sat on my bed and listened for a while.
“Gustav, what is it?” Bill was saying.
“He did it again, Bill!” Gustav shouted. “Again!”
     “What? Who?”
“Georg! He tried to drink my blood!”
     “He did? Again?”
“Yes! He bit me on the neck. See?”
There was a moment of silence. I heard Gustav talking more softly, but still angrily. I listened carefully to what he was saying, but I couldn't understand him. Then, Bill spoke.
“Her?” he said, sounding shocked. “Why do you say that?”
“You've seen them, Bill,” Gustav continued. “He bit her.”
“Well, um. . .Gustav,” Bill started nervously.
     “What?”
Once again, I couldn't understand what was being said. I had a feeling I knew what it was, though.
“Really?” Gustav asked, not sounding as angry as before. “Why?”
“I don't know, they didn't tell me anything.”
“He's crazy. That's just it, he. . .is. . .crazy! And now she's crazy, too!”
“Gustav, please calm down,” Bill said.
Gustav heaved a sigh. “It's her fault, and you know it, Bill. She gave him a good taste of blood, and he wants more. He's just not thinking clearly.”
“Well, we should do something about it, then.”
“Yes,” Gustav said quickly. “We need to get his head out of the bloody clouds. Her, too.”
I didn't hear anymore. They must have left.
“Oh, my gosh,” I said, resting my head in my hands. I had to talk to Georg.
I waited a minute or two before leaving my room and walking down the hallway. I wanted to be sure no one would see me going to Georg's room. I hesitated, then knocked on the door as calmly as my hand would let me. A few seconds went by.
“Oh, hello,” Georg said softly, opening the door a few inches. “I suppose you're here to yell at me.” He turned and walked away from the door, letting it swing open a bit more.
I walked in and closed the door behind me, a little harder than I meant to.
“Well, go ahead,” Georg mumbled, lying face down on his bed. “Yell at me.”
I stared at him. “I'm not going to yell at you,” I said, walking over and sitting next to him.
“You're not?” He rolled onto his side and looked at me in confusion.
“No, I just want to talk.”
He shifted onto his back and sat up, waiting for what I had to say.
“Well, I'll start out with this: Why did you bite Gustav?”
“I knew that was coming,” he said, shaking his head. “I don't know why. I just. . .did. I don't think clearly when I'm hungry. Hungry for blood, that is.”
I nodded in understanding. I knew what he meant. I could easily grab him and bite his neck again, but I tried hard not to think about it. It wasn't working too well.
“Oh,” Georg said suddenly, lifting his head.
     “What?” I asked, confused.
“I know what you're thinking. You want to bite me, don't you?”
     “How do you know?”
“I can just tell. Sharp vampire senses, I suppose.” He stopped looking worried and started moving toward me.
“What are you doing?” I asked as he crawled behind me to where I couldn't see him.
“You'll find out,” he whispered in my ear. He brushed my hair away from my neck and moved my head to the side.
I grabbed onto the edge of the bed and waited for him to bite me. I wanted him to.
     He never did.
Georg cursed and moved back away from me, practically falling off the other side of the bed. He quickly recovered and walked around the bed as I stood up.
“I'm sorry,” he said, and turned to open the door.
“Where are you going?” I asked as he stood in the doorway and looked at me with guilt in his eyes.
“Anywhere but here.” And he left.

It had been at least half an hour, and I hadn't seen Georg anywhere. I don't know why I was looking for him in the first place, it probably would have been a good idea to leave him alone for a while. He seemed pretty upset.
“What's the matter?” Gustav asked as I passed him in the lobby for the third time.
“Gustav, have you seen Georg?” I asked. “I can't find him anywhere.”
I could see his jaw muscles tighten. “Why? Is he missing?”
     “I'm not sure.”
“You're not sure? What does that mean?”
“I don't know, I just can't find him. Do you know where he is?”
He thought for a moment. “Did you check the roof?”
“No, I didn't, I should, thanks, Gustav.” I practically ran all the way to the roof. I was out of breath when I opened the door and walked out onto it. Sure enough, there was Georg, sitting with his legs over the side of the building, his wings folded behind him.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, staring dreamily at the sky.
“Looking for you,” I answered, still out of breath. I walked over and stood behind him.
He sighed. “I just wish I could control myself,” he said defeatedly. “Why couldn't I be human? I hate being a vampire. I hate myself for everything I've done to my friends. And they probably hate me, too.”
“Hey,” I said, tilting his head back to look him in the eyes. “Don't talk like that. You're important to us. We love you no matter what you are.”
I thought I saw him smile a little, but he still looked depressed. I let go of his head and he let it droop again. I sighed and sat next to him, completely forgetting that we were on the roof of a very tall building. We stared at the sky in silence for a while, then I felt something warm on my right arm. I looked over to see Georg's wing wrap around my shoulders and pull me closer to him. I went with it.
“Will you help me?” Georg asked after a minute.
     “Help you what?”
“Help me to control myself. I don't want to hurt anyone anymore.”
I looked at him for a while, not sure what to say. “I'm not sure how I would do that, but, yes, I'll help you.”
Finally, he looked me in the eyes, and smiled.
Intense, right? This part was really fun to write. I hope you like it!
